| Victorian Blotter |

Here in Terminus, we have a free magazine called The Creative Loafing that comes out every Wednesday. One of my favorite sections in it is 'The Blotter', a long running feature that encapsulates the sordid highlights of the previous weeks police reports here in the city. It usually details the more interesting cases, often ranging from the sadly mundane to the outright preposterous. The following illustrations reportedly come from what appears to be a rough Victorian equivalent of 'The Blotter' called the Illustrated Police News which ran from 1864 to 1939. Here one encounters all manner of gruesome scenes that seem as if they were plucked out of a Penny Dreadful or the ending to some ripping yarn.
These would be some of my favorites of the few I've found online.
But a warning first dear reader... let those of a more sensitive disposition turn away now, lest they find themselves made to witness the tragic fates of daring aeronauts, homesick gorillas and those who would recklessly tease the noble elephant.

Extraordinary Collection of Cats is about me isn't it? ;-)
Well, you're an extraordinary cat in my book either way:)
Might you even say that I'm.... The Cat's Pajamas :-)
idiot boy is my favorite superhero.
Pity the teen side kicks of the Victorian Superhero set. Poor Chimney-Sweep Lad, Match Stick Lass, Idiot Boy and the Fighting Waif... masked children sent into the slaughter battling science villians and the demons of the Steam Age.

The case of the dying ape looks like a very sobering experience for everyone involved. How did we manage to go on from this to two world wars?
~~rl
In fact the ape was predicting the coming of the two world wars but sadly this death-bed prophesy was spoken in his native tongue of grunts and the warning was lost on all who witnessed it.
Glad you dig them. I'm hoping I'll find more soon.
Wow, these are amazing! Thanks for sharing. I came here via eatsoylentgreen's journal. May I please stay?
Thank you. No worries. Of course, welcome aboard gravityslave:)

Thank you, that was great. What was odd was you are the second person today to cite the Young Ones after seeing the Man Crucifying Himself.
Beautiful, farking beautiful. Can I steal it? | |
